Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

Commit to a full emissions audit and emissions reduction plan for council to be carbon neutral by 2025.
Commit to resourcing communities to develop climate adaptation and resilience plans.
Commit to ensuring access to low/nil emission transport options for our urban areas.
Encourage those in urban areas to reduce personal vehicle use, by suggesting alternatives, with incentives for participating in carless days.
Understand existing plans and strategies and work with communities to implement these collaboratively rather than being imposed on them.
