Bay of Islands-Whangaroa General Ward
The Far North District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Bay of Islands-Whangaroa ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.   • Incorporate tikanga into how we engage and work with Māori. Work collaboratively, within the frameworks of Te Ao Māori.

    Strengthen our practice of engagement and public participation in policy and project solutions. Hold focus groups, local government "clinics."

    Do governance, and do it well. Hold management to account on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Long Term Plan, budget and capital works programme.

  • Support community groups to work on problem definition and solutions with staff support and resources. Stop being the roadblock to success.

    Support our CEO and staff. We are a tag team and need to work together with the community to enable success.

    Support the disability action group to ensure outcomes for total mobility and equal access for all.

  • Commit to breaking down the internal silos of council to ensure integrated service delivery.

    Develop digital engagement platforms for participatory budgeting and direct customer feedback on levels of service.

    Increase the rate of quality assurance audits on all contracted work to ensure the job is done right, first time, and drive value for money.

  • Work with iwi partners to enable genuine engagement and shared decision making.

    Improve public access using technology to council agendas and both physical and online access to scheduled meetings.

    Use technology to engage with communities when developing annual plans and strategies.
