Bay of Islands-Whangaroa General Ward
The Far North District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Bay of Islands-Whangaroa ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Encourage the development of a marketing message for the area which truly delivers on its promise to visitors, so they leave as advocates.

    Work alongside the business community to identify and plan for the infrastructure and services needed to support further business growth.

  • Partner with funding and education agencies, and local businesses to reduce our NEET (not in education, employment or training) rate below the national average.

    Introduce Safe Cities programmes in to our CBD areas to ensure businesses and community have the safety and security to thrive.

    Accelerate sustainable procurement policy through council process to ensure council contracts deliver with community, for community.

  • Work with the critical friends group to develop a masterplan for Kerikeri.

    Understand what critical infrastructure is required to enable community prosperity and advocate for delivery.

    Transport networks are critical for local businesses, employment and tourism. Roads, walking, cycling, mode share. Advocate for equal access.
