Why I'm standing

Kia ora. I'm a Hawkes Bay local. My wife and I are raising our four school-aged children here, just a few streets from where I grew up on Te Aute Rd. I love this place and see huge opportunities for Hastings as a hub of innovation and culture but I also see a number of challenges and deepening issues for our community. I want to play my part to lead Hastings into a brighter future.

About me

I'm deeply connected into the local community here in Hastings and Havelock North. I've served in a range of leadership roles in international security, diplomacy and in community organisations, sharpening my financial, economic development and governance capabilities. In my current day job I lead New Zealand's programme of official aid cooperation with the Kingdom of Tonga. I previously served in the NZ Army, am a keen cricketer, fisherman and stand-up comic.

My priorities
  1. Housing availability and affordability: Hastings is growing and 880 of our people live in hotels.
  2. Water: quality, infrastructure and decision making remaining with the community are all key.
  3. Economic diversification: we need a broad based economy to be resilient and to grow local incomes.
