Henderson-Massey Local Board

The Henderson-Massey Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Advocate for upgrades in our wastewater/stormwater infrastructure due to intensification.

    Support local groups like Rivercare Group Te Wai O Pariera that report stormwater issues and waste minimisation groups like EcoMatters.

  • Opposition to 3 Waters should be every ones priority.

  • Advocate for the upgrade of the infrastructure of three waters to mitigate the impacts of housing intensification.

    Work, not just on engineering solutions, but also on environmental management of water.

    Increase partnerships with environmental groups like EcoMatters Trust and Motu Manawa to help manage and improve local water resources.

  • Ensure that our streets including in front of our busy shopping areas and town centres, are regularly cleaned to a high standard.

    Make sure that our drinking water is up to a very high standard.

    Ensure the successful rollout of the food scraps collection service.

  • Make areas like Rānui more floodproof, so locals aren't troubled by such events.

    Upgrade water facilities like wastewater and stormwater to better cater to our area's growing population.

    Build off-leash parks for dog owners to let their dogs roam free safely.

  • Work with local environmental groups to mitigate the flood risk of the Waimoko Stream in Ranui.

    Trial the proposed food waste collection scheme proposed by Auckland City.

    Ensure that tree planting continues to be promoted in the many new housing subdivisions occurring in the Henderson Massey Local Board area.

  • Advocate for a new fenced dog park for Massey.

    Advocate for upgrades in our waste and stormwater infrastructure, particularly in areas subject to housing intensification.

    Support initiatives that encourage waste reduction and minimisation, including those that contribute to the circular economy.

  • Finding other solutions other then rates funded rubbish collection.

    More transparency on the three waters debate.

    Ensure funding available to maintain street cleaning.

  • Encourage local product stewardship and private-public partnerships in recycling plastic.

    Ensure waste management plans are promptly implemented and promote innovation in waste management.

    Manage stormwater to enhance water quality in rivers and estuaries by regenerating wetlands and establishing urban rain gardens.

  • Local boards need to be the enabler and promote rubbish and recycling including reuse, and our streets remain litter free.

    Local boards need to act as the eyes and ears for Watercare, ensuring that Watercare remains in Auckland's control.

    Through dog licensing, create more dog-friendly parks and services.

  • Do not support the Three Waters as Auckland already has scale and is doing planning. Growth continues to put pressure on infrastructure.

    We must recycle and reuse and reduce waste and at-source changes must be made too, especially manufacturers/ importers and building industry.

    Consider providing the best for people must be the most important reason for decisions.
