Kaipātiki Local Board

The Kaipātiki Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Increase waste levy to discourage more waste in the environment. More korero with commercial sector, producers and consumers needed.

  • Continue to significantly fund local environmental projects, including Pest Free Kaipātiki and Kaipātiki Project, water monitoring and more.

    Continue to fund pollution prevention work in light industrial areas of Wairau Valley to protect the Milford/Wairau catchment.

    Invest in Zero Waste initiatives with community partner Kaipātiki Project and eke Panuku and support our community houses with recycle cafes.

  • Work in partnership with community groups and mana whenua to improve the health of local freshwater and coastal areas.

    Take action on pest reduction, and where possible eradication of predators and browsers of plants.

    Introduce a residential environmental strategy to understand, plant and create ecosystems that support our local environment.

  • Reduce landfill waste by introducing compost collection to entire ward, recycle that compost back into community and residential gardens.

    Maintain pest control measures for greenspaces and increase flowering native trees to ensure our birds and bees have plenty to feed from.

    Protect our waterways from mangrove suffocation by maintaining healthy sustainable levels for both insect life and the water reserves.

  • Support biodiversity projects in our berms and reserves.

    Get our beaches swimmable all year by pushing for water infrastructure upgrades so we don't have wastewater overflows every time it rains.

    Upgrade our public bins to facilitate recycling and better design bins so rubbish doesn't blow out of the bin every time it is windy.

  • Continue supporting eco volunteer and environmental monitoring funding.

    Ensure contractors support volunteer groups (not counteract them as is currently happening!).

    Support local people to be informed and take action to protect their local environment rather than be stymied by council processes.

  • Support Pest-Free Kaipātiki and other restoration groups along with mana whenua to be kaitiaki over te taiao.

    Facilitate community education around waste management and maximisation of recycling facilities.

    Hire a Bird-Speaking Person to provide counsel and seed to the native bird populations of Kaipātiki.
