Kaipātiki Local Board

The Kaipātiki Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local councils are responsible for land use planning under the Resource Management Act, which affects where and how new houses are constructed, as well as the design of cities and towns. In some areas, councils also provide housing to those who need it most.

  • Re-structure suburb zones to remove blanket consent for three storey dwellings without consent.

    Increase urban spaces in multi development communities.

    Increase accommodation for homeless.

  • Protect our heritage and special character areas.

    Keep developers within the zoning rules.

    Support the retention of Haumaru Housing for older people

  • Increase council housing for the elderly. Encourage shared living arrangements, reduce loneliness, reducing need for high density houses.

    Create temporary homes for the homeless to give them housing stability, whilst assisted into permanent housing and mental health support.

    Establish and promote community gardens and fruit trees on under utilised green reserves, for food security.

  • Oppose new heritage housing areas and review existing ones in the interest of safe, healthy and warm housing with affordable options for all.

    Dedicate time of the local board to assisting any locals suffering from homelessness into government-supported living.

    Propose community bylaws that permit freedom camping in our reserves with monitored responsibility for waste disposals.

  • Plan for the future of our main centres so that they serve their local communities.

    Ensure new housing has adequate places and spaces for our tamariki to play.

    Make sure that our new developments have sufficient parking and access to public transport.

  • Advocate for more mixed use development.

    Advocate for more housing around public transport nodes.

    Support greater density in existing areas rather than urban sprawl.

  • Reduce costs and process length for consents so that building houses for our people are faster.

    Build more council houses to accommodate for the demand.

    Make these house affordable for the eligible group/age.

  • Deliver good quality, energy efficient, affordable housing suitable for long term long family occupation.

    Provide services, infrastructure and public amenities in consultation with the local community prior to planning new housing developments.

  • Oppose new heritage housing areas and review existing ones in the interest of safe, healthy and warm housing with affordable options for all.

    Dedicate time of the local board to assisting any locals suffering from homelessness into government-supported living.

    Senior housing is essential, and I strongly support Haumaru Housing and the building of Kāinga Ora housing, especially in Northcote.

    Keep our open space and parks. I do not support land sales. Once it's gone, it's gone forever.

  • Advocating for water-sensitive design, greater levels of permeable surfaces in development and on-site rain harvesting.

    Advocate for infrastructure upgrades before further brownfield developments (higher density) to maintain and improve our waterways.

  • Support the unitary plan allocation of land for housing.
