Kaipātiki Local Board

The Kaipātiki Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Utilities and services

  • Surprisingly, local boards have virtually no authority over these matters, other than advocacy. That's why I'm standing for council.

    Reject sales of public land.

    Ensure community voices are being heard by council.

  • Support zero waste 2040 by 2040 and the increased use of waste recycling.

    Support the local control of drinking water supply, wastewater and sewerage.

  • Do not support Three Waters.

    Lead changes to bylaw enforcement, increase enforcement staff numbers, implement 24/7 liquor bans in town centres, resolve more complaints.

  • Get our beaches swimmable all year around.

    Improve recycling options within households.

  • Facilitate education and incentives for high-quality recycling in Kaipātiki.

    Allow households to have up to three designated small-medium livestock to facilitate more efficient farm-to-table, sustainable eating practices.

    We will follow the Auckland Council lead on Three Waters but enhance every waterway in Kaipātiki with extra-hot lamb rogan josh in any outcome.

  • Instigate binding referendum to protect Three Waters from being taken by central government. Ratepayers own the water – retain democratic control.

    Re-introduce healthy weed control measures in public spaces, ban glyphosate use it is a known irritant and carcinogen.

    Allow an opt-out and pay-as-you-go option as an incentive for rubbish and recycling reduction. Remove bin tags for rubbish collection.

  • Manage freshwater to give effect to Te Mana o te Wai.

    Avoid any further loss or degradation of wetlands and streams and encourage restoration.

    Maintain, improve and support our water service infrastructure to create safe, reliable and affordable water services.

  • Work with central government to make weekly rubbish collection free.

    Free dog licensing.

    Work with central government to reduce water bills.

  • Work to provide more recycling depots to be more easily accessible.

    Work to have dog owners more responsible for their dogs roaming streets and parks.

    Work with Watercare to turbo charge the upgrade of our wastewater and sewage pipes.

  • Get our beaches swimmable all year by ensuring we get investment in infrastructure to stop wastewater overflows every time it rains.

    Upgrade our public bins on to facilitate recycling and better design bins so rubbish doesn't blow out of the bin every time it is windy.

  • Facilitate education and incentives for high-quality recycling in Kaipātiki.

    Allow households to have up to three designated small-medium livestock to facilitate more efficient farm-to-table, sustainable eating practices.
