Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board

The Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Dunedin City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Local councils are responsible for land use planning under the Resource Management Act, which affects where and how new houses are constructed, as well as the design of cities and towns. In some areas, councils also provide housing to those who need it most.

  • Ensure that the council plays a greater role in facilitating more affordable housing for young families.

    Use the tools available to the council to solve our own housing problems rather than relying on central government policy.

    Protect valuable Taieri soils but fully utilise other areas not designated as high-class to attract young families to the Taieri.

  • Rezone so that high class soils cannot be used for housing. Lower grade soil areas for housing.

    Educate people to have their own gardens and grow their own foods. Cheaper housing for less well-off with areas for vegetable gardening.

    Ensure housing is adequate for living healthily with warmth and proper amenities for people in lower socioeconomic groups.

  • Reducing the wait time of consents and having pre-approved home plan to shorten the wait period.

    Working with a third party agency to build and manage social housing to maximise return to the ratepayer.

    Rezone the suburbs to encourage higher density housing development.

  • Advocate for a heavy traffic by pass for Mosgiel, for a safer main street.

    Ensure infrastructure is in alignment with new housing developments.

    Support landlords to achieve the Healthy Homes legislation under the Residential Tenancies Act.

    Stop eliminating urban road spaces without consultation with the community that resides in that space.
