Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board

The Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Dunedin City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Local governments play a central role in protecting the environment, reducing waste and safeguarding biodiversity. The worsening state of New Zealand’s lakes and rivers is a major challenge for local councils, which work with regional councils in the management of water resources in their area.

  • Educate on the importance of less pollution entering our waterways and growth of plants along river banks and waterways to sift out pollutants.

    Educate and re-establish a pest control board to get rid of pests in a humane way without poisoning the earth to do so.

    Recycle in a profitable way. Create jobs in this area and use education to find ways to utilise rubbish sustainably. Use glass not plastic.

  • Advocate for the retention of our green spaces and continue with ways to protect our waterways.

  • Stop the Three Waters legislation and the creation of new entities. Start meaningful consultation for improvements at local level.

    Establish better pathways for farmers to achieve environmental planning.

    Support the implementation of the council having a three bin system to reduce landfill and create organic elements to be reused.

  • Advocate to the Otago Regional Council for better protection of the Taieri, the Silverstream and their tributaries by ensuring all inflows are fully fenced.

    Fully investigate the effect of the proposed Smooth Hill Landfill on the Taieri and advocate accordingly.

    Improve the recreational areas within our area such as Whare Flat, Outram Glen and Waihola so these become attractive recreational areas.

  • Protect our fresh water.

    Current and future generations should be able to swim in clean lakes, rivers and oceans.
