Ahuriri Ward
The Napier City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Two councillors will be elected from the Ahuriri ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Develop our housing portfolio to better support our tenants' needs and provide a stable financial asset for the community.

    Encourage housing intensification in areas it makes sense – ensuring we protect our green spaces for all to enjoy.

  • Supporting the continuation of housing provision for our growing vulnerable elderly population.

    Encourage high density housing without destroying the character of our city's suburbs.

    Support maintaining our existing green spaces and ensuring all new developments include recreational spaces for the community.

  • Maintain council pensioner flats for retired Napier residents, including those with disabilities if applicable.

    Identify area within the region for social, affordable and open market housing development.

    Develop a regional action plan to address homelessness.

  • Council housing to ensure our vulnerable elderly have an affordable choice gives a sense of social wellbeing. I would prefer to keep some.

    Build consents are under review with the Resource Management Act reform and streamlining the process to expedite the consent process is necessary.

    Urban spaces and streetscapes are an important part of Napier City Council to keep the city functional and the design appealing to citizens.
