Ahuriri Ward
The Napier City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Two councillors will be elected from the Ahuriri ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Support for community events and festivals. It is important as it provides a sense of belonging to our community.

    Provide good value for money for dog owners with more places for off leash activity. Better policing of dogs and checks for unlicensed dogs.

  • Replace the pool and library as soon as possible. The library needs to get out of the museum.

    Supporting festivals may seem like a luxury but they are good for community wellness and cohesion and should be supported where possible.

    Sporting facilities support our youth and community cohesion and are important for wellness and health.

  • Continue to develop regional sporting facilities and promote effective management and utilisation of our current facilities.

    Promote and grow the Art Deco events as part of our regional identity.

    Ensure the Napier War Memorial Centre is completed by Anzac Day 2023.

  • Upgrade our public facilities in stages to keep them interesting and modernised.

    Promote sporting events that bring competitors and supporters to the city for weekends.

    Encourage festivals and other events that are in line with the Napier culture.
