Nelson City Council

Central General Ward
The Nelson City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Four councillors will be elected from the Central General ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Nelson City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I'm standing for council to help shape a better future for all of us.

About me

I'm standing for council to help shape a better future for all of us. My children have left home and my business can largely run itself, so I want to contribute to the community and help Nelson Whakatū thrive as we meet the challenges before us and make the transition to a low carbon, resilient society. Most importantly, I want to communicate a clear and inclusive vision so we can all move forward together.

My priorities
  1. Meet the realities of our future as we decarbonise the economy and prioritise ecosystem wellbeing.
  2. Communicate the changes required to ensure human activity occurs within safe environmental limits.
  3. Re-establish community connections as the most important component of human wellbeing.
