Nelson City Council

Central General Ward
The Nelson City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Four councillors will be elected from the Central General ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Nelson City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I hope to see Nelson lead our country in defining what a healthy, successful, and embracing community can be. I want to reach the untapped knowledge, vision, and innovations of our community, allowing it to guide us towards better outcomes for all who call Nelson their home.

About me

I hope to bring the voice of Nelson's young families to the council table. My experience in accountancy and social work has helped me raise a family, launch charities, lead a faith community, lead a youth-work team, develop policy, and support our vulnerable communities. I have held multiple governance and decision-making roles, collaborated on affordable/social housing in Nelson, and have lived, worked and studied in Nelson since childhood.

My priorities
  1. Commit to thoughtful decisions on council spending, considering our most vulnerable communities.
  2. Improve our methods of engaging, listening and responding to people, organisations, and businesses.
  3. Develop our economy by removing barriers to local spending and innovation, and revitalising the CBD.
