Nelson City Council

Central General Ward
The Nelson City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Four councillors will be elected from the Central General ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Nelson City Council election.

Why I'm standing

Over recent years I have felt the energy and vibrancy slide away from our city. Unfortunately Nelson has become a place that's too difficult to do business and now fails to offer people any real reason to visit. This prompted my to run for council. I hope to bring some energy and excitement to our city in an attempt bring back energetic and exciting people. Attraction through Opportunity Creation.

About me

A nelson 'lifer' I started in business in Nelson 10 years ago. For me there is nothing more satisfying then seeing happy people out and about in our city, the energy that comes from people in a good mood is infectious. As my main focus is on creating opportunities to attract happy people to our city then I am sure this will make me a great elected representative.

My priorities
  1. Reintroduce energy and life to our CBD. The beating heart of our city has become dull.
  2. Infrastructure Investment. Build services that can cater for growth in our city.
  3. Building a safe, diverse, accessible city with great schools, stable jobs, and abundant opportunity.
