Nelson City Council

Stoke-Tāhunanui General Ward
The Nelson City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Four councillors will be elected from the Stoke-Tāhunanui General ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Nelson City Council election.

Why I'm standing

My ancestors have been here since the 1300's at Matangi Awhio and Pikimai – Church Hill. Whakatū was beautiful and bountiful then as it is now. Te Tau Ihu intergenerational response in being good guardians and good ancestors is measured by what we do today for the future beautiful, bountiful taonga in our current presence – I believe we have capacity and courage to ensure that for our mokōpuna.

About me

Ko au te whenua, te whenua ko au. I am the whenua, the whenua is me. I have presented seven Waitangi Tribunal Claims as a lead negotiator between the Crown for Te Atiawa Iwi Trust and brought Te Atiawa Iwi to full and final settlement with the Crown in the top of South Island. My NZ Police, Registered Nursing, Senior Anglican Priest background is only a part of my knowledge I bring to Nelson City Council.

My priorities
  1. A voice for Wai 262 Flora and Fauna. Indigenous plants animals and creatures that don't have a voice.
  2. Encourage more diversified ethnic multi-cultural community engagement with Nelson City Council.
  3. To thank Mayor Rachel Reese, past councillors, Nelson City Council staff, in encouraging our beautiful city and people.
