Nelson City Council

Stoke-Tāhunanui General Ward
The Nelson City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Four councillors will be elected from the Stoke-Tāhunanui General ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Nelson City Council election.

Why I'm standing

With a background in social work and working for central government. I know we can do better for the people of Nelson, across a variety of issues, and I want to help drive that change.

About me

I have advocated strongly for Nelson constituents over the past four years with successful outcomes. I will bring to the council table my experience of strong advocacy against systems that are not working and promote a more collaborative approach between council and members of our community.

My priorities
  1. Promote policies that enable affordable housing, housing for the elderly and an emergency shelter.
  2. Support local business to better engage with council through actions groups.
  3. Ensure collaboration between council, police and social services to tackle crime and social issues.
