New Plymouth District Council

New Plymouth District At Large
The New Plymouth District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the five councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city). This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the New Plymouth District Council election.

Why I'm standing

For a number of years I have been critical of performances at New Plymouth District Council. It is time to put up or shut up. I will unashamedly back ratepayers over visionaries with grandiose ideas. As a trade-based independent thinker, I believe we have lost the ability to carry out simple responsibilities efficiently. We rely too much on outside organisations to guide us and inevitably lose our local expertise and knowledge input. I value independence of thought.

About me

Having built a moderately successful business that operates quietly in the background on a National level, I believe I have the ability to achieve results we need at New Plymouth District Council. Governance currently lacks a knowledge of what actually works in the real world. I pride myself on having started at the ground sweeping the floor – up to now, importing raw materials, manufacturing, and distributing nationally with the attributes of effective decision making once parameters are known.

My priorities
  1. Stop Three Waters – create and build local owned and operated 'all of Taranaki' alternative.
  2. Implement a council-owned organisation to maintain our poorly performing roading maintenance.
  3. Reduce funding to ALL outside consultancy organisations.
