The Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of seven members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

    Increase tree canopy cover in the local board area by planting more trees in our parks and on the road corridor.

    Support the Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland's Climate Plan for reducing regional climate emissions.

  • Commit to being carbon neutral by 2025.

    Invest in educating and informing residents about the effects of climate change.

    Advocate for green infrastructure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Ensure that meals served at all board events and meetings are plant based, for animals, environment and prevention of future pandemics.

    Ensure the enviroschools programme includes consideration of the causes of climate change and pandemics in its curriculum.

    Establish tree planting and habitat restoration at the Sports Bowl and other reserves.
