Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board

The Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of seven members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Continue to work with mana whenua to expand opportunities for input into decision-making.

    Continue to run diversity forums to get input from our diverse ethnic communities.

    Participate in the local government reforms and seek to revive local democracy and address low voter turnout in local body elections.

  • Work on removing barriers to voting in local government elections.

    Continue to meet obligations to tangata whenua under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

    Develop a work-plan to translate local government updates to the spoken languages of our local board area.

  • Seek input from all ethnic community representatives (Asian, Pacific, Māori) on important decisions.

    Pay at least living wage to board employees and contractors.

    Increase customer service staff so the public can always find someone to help them, in person or on the phone.
