Rangiora-Ashley Community Board

Rangiora Subdivision
The Rangiora-Ashley Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Waimakariri District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of eight members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the community board area. Six members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Grow our bus network and reduce the fares, making buses and cycling the most attractive options instead of cars.

    Continue developing our excellent cycle paths and not just green paint in the live lane of traffic where cyclists are frequently injured.

    Sensible speed limits. Reduce the +/- 10km/hr speed changes. Set one speed instead of eight speed changes along the one stretch of road.

  • Ensure public transport is affordable, relevant and effective. Engage with the community to shape the changes required.

    Rangiora is getting busier so ensure the safety of our aging population by adding in more safe places to cross.

    Get Lineside Road sorted! Put pressure on NZ road transport to escalate its development of a safe intersection.

  • Advocate and support initiatives to keep improving safety for tamariki to get to and from school safely.

    Promote and support public or shared transport that works for everyone in our community that are well priced and provide a quality service.

    Support expansions and upkeep of our walkways, cycleways and car parking.

  • Support public bus service and consider feasibility of including local towns.

    Continue expanding walking and cycleways and consider off road gravel trails in rural areas especially around schools.

  • Promote alternative forms of transport to reduce congestion on the arterial roads.

    Promote an investigation into the feasibility of a rates rebate for public transport users.

    Continue to work with the council on ideas for Southbrook Road.
