Te Awahou Foxton Community Board

The Te Awahou Foxton Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Horowhenua District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of seven members: five members elected by voters, and two councillors from the Horowhenua District Council.  This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Commit council to support the intent of affordable housing by ensuring that policy and planning allow for the "little guys" to participate.

    Commit council to ensure that all new developments are self-sustainable and self-determined without relying on council/government funding.

    Commit council to work with all housing providers to assist in all facets of housing, especially homeless and the lack of affordable rentals.

  • Streamline the consent process, employing common sense.

    Limit building development on flood prone land without effective storm-water control.

    Encourage development of some low cost housing to match the economic condition of the community.

  • Stop consents for new builds in areas where current services are already overwhelmed.

    Stop zoning new residential areas in flood prone areas.

    Support Horowhenua District Council in ensuring affordable housing is at least 50% of new build consents.

  • Ensure housing development is in keeping with community expectations and the building consents process works smoothly.

    Make sensible decisions re future subdivisions so that new builds' risk of coastal erosion are minimised and liquefaction policies work.

    Build houses that suit diverse families to help ensure communities have a high standard of living notwithstanding variable income levels.
