Te Awahou Foxton Community Board

The Te Awahou Foxton Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Horowhenua District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of seven members: five members elected by voters, and two councillors from the Horowhenua District Council.  This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Working with new established entities like the Three Waters and health entities to get the best for our community that's sustainable and works.

    Identifying better more technically advanced means to deal with waste and minimising waste that are inline with district and national policies.

    Managing the needs of the district without further costs to ratepayers, drawing on all other revenue sources to offset costs on our own.

  • Re-introduce bi-annual kerbside collection of large items such as fridges and cookers.

    Ensure that the new Three Waters concept improves our situation regarding drinking water and disposal of storm water.

    Pay attention to animal control. Look at providing secure areas for free run dog exercise.

  • Support Three Waters where we see the refund of investment back to council otherwise we should not lose control of these assets.

    Reduce landfill thru increased recycling of building supplies and household items that can be repaired and create employment at same time.

    Increase animal control to reduce dogs roaming and make more areas mandatory leash required.

  • Support ongoing waste disposal facilities through our kerbside bag collection service, and waste transfer stations in Foxton and Shannon.

    Work for a successful transition to the Three Waters Strategy while ensuring permanent public ownership of all assets.

    Support anti-litter campaigns and making it clear to dog owners to be responsible and pick up their dog poo when they walk their dogs.
