Te Awahou Foxton Community Board

The Te Awahou Foxton Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Horowhenua District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of seven members: five members elected by voters, and two councillors from the Horowhenua District Council.  This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local governments play a central role in protecting the environment, reducing waste and safeguarding biodiversity. The worsening state of New Zealand’s lakes and rivers is a major challenge for local councils, which work with regional councils in the management of water resources in their area.

  • Lobby for increased pest control on the Ramsar site.

    Support and lobby for increased waste minimisation projects to reduce landfill and increase recycling being processed locally.

    Lobby Horowhenua District Council to be proactive in having local waterways improved with other agencies and groups.

  • Commit council to undertake roles in the new Three Waters entity to best promote the needs and aspirations of our community and wider district.

    Commit council to recognise natural/cultural landscapes and features and embed these in all council policies and plans.

    Commit council to recognise all heritage within the district and community to reflect where we are as a nation today.

  • Work for a successful transition to the Three Waters Strategy while ensuring permanent public ownership of all assets.

    Optimise water quality in the Manawatū River and elsewhere in our district.

    Ensure growth in our community is sustainable and recycling bins are added to public areas and supermarkets offer more recyclable products.

  • Work on re-opening the Manawatū River Loop at Foxton.
