Te Awahou Foxton Community Board

The Te Awahou Foxton Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Horowhenua District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of seven members: five members elected by voters, and two councillors from the Horowhenua District Council.  This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Ensure safety of people is paramount in all transport considerations and focus must remain as such by thorough planning and implementation.

    Work with all partners and entities to achieve the needs of the district as a whole and ensure people come first, not dollars.

    Work with all crown entities and contractors to find better solutions around better value and outcomes for our community in projects.

  • Resolve the pedestrian crossing challenges of State Highway 1. And plan for the time that the new highway opens.

    Seek ways of improving public transport in our area.

    Improve the footpaths for both pedestrians and mobility scooters.

  • Implement a meaningful coordinated transport strategy with NZTA, HRC and others for an holistic, integrated transport system.

    Ensure, as far as possible, any adopted strategy truly does meet the needs of our growing district.

    Support the expressway linking Ōtaki to Levin and our government's investigation into electrifying the rail line from Waikanae to Levin.

  • Lobby Horizons Regional Council for local bus circuit to Levin on daily basis using electric bus.

    Lobby Waka Tahi for the promised clip-on cycle and walkways over the Manawatū River and Whirikino Bridges

    Support the O2NL expressway to be completed as soon as possible to increase local road safety.
