Te Awahou Foxton Community Board

The Te Awahou Foxton Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Horowhenua District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of seven members: five members elected by voters, and two councillors from the Horowhenua District Council.  This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Encourage more community involvement through an "open door" policy and better communication. Distribution of Information is important.

    Work on better interaction with local Iwi, understanding and acknowledging the cultural differences.

    Move away from the "one size fits all" thinking by recognising individuality.

  • Listen to our community and ensure everyone can participate no matter had big or small the issue may be, every voice needs to be heard.

    Guide and educate our community to understand Māori issues and make it understandable to everybody to guide how we can support each other.

    Help and assist our community to truly understand the huge role councils play and the role our community have, we need everyone on the waka.

  • Ensure always appropriate democratic local decision making for the social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing of our district.

    Utilising drop-in centres, workshops, neighbourhood meetings, focus groups and surveys to get residents' feedback on community issues.

    Avoid secret "in committee" meetings wherever possible to ensure maximum transparency and accountability.

  • Lobby for increased financial control and decision making by the community board for the Foxton Beach Freeholding Account.

    Lobby for increased consultation for locals to ensure voices heard at planning stages.
