Climate change and resilience

Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

  • Develop a climate resilient plan, to prepare for, adapt to, and ensure the recovery from natural disasters, including rising sea levels.

Maintain a climate-focused action committee, that focuses on finding sustainable, affordable and realistic solutions to climate-change.

Provide education on the importance of reducing our carbon footprint, and being a sustainable focused community.

  • Develop strategies to mitigate climate change and strengthen civil defence policy around natural disaster events.

  • Education, as opposed to taxation, is the way to deal with "climate change". Carbon neutrality is a pipe dream, but reducing is achievable.

Earthquakes are an "act of God". Unpredictable but we must prepare and build accordingly.
