Mercury Bay Ward
The Thames-Coromandel District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Mercury Bay ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Involve the community more through improved communication and interaction on local issues.

    Work on clear emergency management policy for the protection of all local residents and visitors to the Coromandel.

  • Increase the use of surveys and consultation rounds on significant local decisions.

    Continue to strengthen working relationships with local iwi.

  • Commit to building professional relationships with people in the community, to convey their desires and needs, and ensure they are heard.

    Assist in developing and maintaining strong relationships with iwi, community groups, business owners, and all other community members.

    Advocate for the Mercury Bay Community, and ensure all actions are always in the best interest of the people in our community.

  • Establish and encourage public input into the region's needs.
