Timaru Ward
The Timaru District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Six councillors will be elected from the Timaru ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Promote Timaru District as the perfectly located central sporting venue for the south island. Make more of our facilities all weather venues.

  • Support more inner city festivals like night and arcade market. Attract people to the CBD. Celebrate local talent and products.

    Seriously look at the future viability of the Timaru library which is near earthquake prone. It's a huge undertaking.

    Support local architects and designers for the redevelopment of the art gallery. Maybe look at integration with museum art pieces too.

  • Support and deliver on major projects like Theatre Royal, Aigantighe Art Gallery, and Timaru CityTown.

    Ensure our bylaws maximise protection from alcohol and gambling related harm, including adding vaping to smokefree policy.

    Investigate interest in 'Timaru Tidies Up' annual festival where community and local government to work together to beautify the district.
