The Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and three councillors from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local councils are responsible for land use planning under the Resource Management Act, which affects where and how new houses are constructed, as well as the design of cities and towns. In some areas, councils also provide housing to those who need it most.

  • Increase housing density while exempting qualifying matter areas due to natural hazards, special character or heritage.

    Support section purchase to create community parks in high density areas.

    Encourage a rental warrant of fitness to raise standards of living in rented housing.

  • Ensure urban intensification initiatives are consistent with my 'For Communities You'll Love to Live in' election logo in all respects.

    Support Christchurch City Council efforts to house 20,000 more permanent residents close to the city centre, including protecting from excessive unhosted AirBnB.

    Plan for Christchurch growth of the equivalent of a Timaru added to the greater city every decade, while at the same time becoming better.

  • Establish a warrant of fitness system on heating for landlords.

  • Encourage a simplified building consent process. Currently its far too expensive cumbersome, time consuming and not fit for purpose in 2022.

    Encourage a planning regulation and process which can influence housing supply and affordability. Planning regulations need to be addressed.

    Encourage integration and connectivity which are keys to good urban design. We need great places to live, work and play. Good policy is key.

  • Preserve green spaces and recreational areas as a priority. We can design liveable cities that balance housing requirements with outdoor space.

    Identify housing needs within our communities and work with the community board to advise council to plan and resource for quality outcomes.
