The Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and three councillors from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Protect our water supply, it is essential to life. This involves everyone, we all need to improve, including current water management.

    Maintain current rubbish and recycling as a minimum level. While looking for more sustainable, long term solutions.

    Provide bins in parks for dog owners to be able to dispose of waste.

  • Stop Three Waters because it's fatally flawed. The reform is right but the method is wrong. Revisit, reassess and rewrite.

    Promote recycling, reuse and reduced landfill. It is common sense.

  • Support 'low waste living', excellent rubbish collection and recycling systems, and less food waste by giving excess food to hungry folk.

    Prioritize excellent Three Waters practices in the city, whether by Christchurch City Council or a national body. Reduce the current high losses from leakage.

    Support excellent parks and walkways for dogs and owners while protecting bird feeding areas – the estuary and wetlands – from dog intrusion.

  • Establish a rates decrease based on eco friendly homes.

    Promote incentives for compost bins at home.
