Mayor of Wellington

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Wellington City Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I love Wellington and Wellingtonians. I've demonstrated my 100 percent commitment and ability to get things done and make a difference over many years, even in very challenging circumstances. I want our city to be the best in the world, inclusive, sustainable, the world leader in environmental restoration. To be a creative city, the arts and culture capital. A city of opportunity and choice, where council and community work together to create the future we want.

About me

I've shown my unwavering commitment to our city over many years, and got a huge amount done. I demonstrate integrity, loyalty, commitment, authenticity, professionalism and hard work. I focus on the city and its people, not politics. I've always been heavily involved in community. With my investment and economics background I understand finances. I understand our city, the complexities of council – a $9 billion entity delivering 400-plus services, and relevant laws and processes.

My priorities
  1. Reactivate the CBD as a place people love to be. Finish buildings. Support safety, events, art, culture.
  2. Finish Let's Get Wellington Moving transport plan details and get building. Set up Urban Development Agency to build houses.
  3. Keep fixing infrastructure. We're on the job including doing CBD sewer work. Omaroro is almost complete.
