Wellington City Council

Pukehīnau/Lambton General Ward
The Wellington City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 15 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Three councillors will be elected from the Pukehīnau/Lambton ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Wellington City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I'm a student at Te Herenga Waka and also work part time. I decided to run this term to give a voice to young people and renters of Wellington. One of the biggest issues facing our residents is the cost of housing. The housing crisis is rooted in a shortage of housing. To bring back affordable housing supply, I strongly believe that council must allow more housing in areas where it is needed most.

About me

I'm a student, part time worker and young renter living in the inner suburbs of Wellington. Over the past few years I have been following decisions that Wellington City Council has made, particularly on housing. I don't believe the council's decisions do enough to allow affordable housing to be built.

My priorities
  1. Enable more housing where it's most needed: in the city centre, inner suburbs and transport routes.
  2. Enable sustainable travel by installing congestion-free bus lanes and safe walking/cycling routes.
  3. Support investment in Wellington's Three Waters infrastructure.
