Lower Hutt City Council

Hutt City At Large
The Lower Hutt City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the five councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city). This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Lower Hutt City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I love the Hutt City. I got involved with local government because of my community. I would love to serve the wider community through council because I currently do not see some of the perspectives that I hold being represented and I want to advocate for the voices that I currently see are missing out - from the communities I represent and engage with, for the benefit of the present and well into the future.

About me

Born and bred in Te Awakairangi ki Tai/Lower Hutt, I have a mix of experiences in various sectors over the last 20 years – community, retail, hospitality, faith groups, youth, volunteer, food resilience and governance; including the last nine years on the Petone Community Board. I am super passionate about environmental and social justice. I love this city, and its people; and most importantly, I am grounded in the community.

My priorities
  1. Ensure community have a voice at the table through strong advocacy and representation.
  2. Ensure communication is a two way street with open channels to and from the community.
  3. Focus on climate resilience as a lens to ensure good wellbeing and outcomes for the short, medium and long term.
