Lower Hutt City Council

Hutt City At Large
The Lower Hutt City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the five councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city). This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Lower Hutt City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I am deeply committed to our wonderful city and its communities. I was born in the Hutt and currently reside in Belmont with my family. I believe it is a fantastic place, but like all cities it has some things that need to improve. I decided to seek election as a councillor to help ensure the Hutt remains a special place for future generations.

About me

After a financial career in New Zealand and Washington DC, I served as Hutt City Council's chief financial officer and later chief executive. I am currently a city councillor, trustee for several charitable organisations and strategic consultant. I am a qualified chartered accountant and a member of the Institute of Directors. I believe my commitment to the Hutt, financial expertise and in-depth knowledge of council operations ideally position me to address the substantial affordability issues the council now faces.

My priorities
  1. Comprehensively revise the council's financial plan to deliver better outcomes for communities.
  2. Independently review the council's rocketing operating costs and identify and implement savings.
  3. Focus on successful delivery of the RiverLink project and the new regional water entity transition.
