Our elected members have a significant influence on city operations, project prioritisation and investment allocation. Councillors are tasked with understanding and implementing good governance principles in decision-making rather than getting involved in operational matters. The mayor must have a strong vision and strength, work in partnership with councillors to set the council's agenda to get results for ratepayers because our council needs to be accountable to our ratepayers and our community.
My career has taken me from running my own hairdressing business to serving in central government, stepping into governance and community leadership roles. Along the way, I've had to make tough calls, balance budgets and be accountable. That journey from small business to public office has been built on resilience, service and a deep commitment to our community. It has taught me the importance of transparency, of listening and making decisions that stand the test of time.
