Kāpiti Coast District At Large
The Kāpiti Coast District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. This election is for the elected by all voters in the district. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the district). This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.   • Develop appropriate infrastructure to cope with growing communities.

    Install a customer-focused approach to regulatory services through consent processes.

    Partner with independent housing trusts and Housing NZ/ Kāinga Ora to deliver community housing.

  • Support establishment of an Urban Design Panel for Kapiti.

    Support the Kapiti Housing Solutions Trust, a Council-sponsored trust that aims to increase supply of affordable housing.

  • Ensure the work undertaken as the housing portfolio holder continues and that council facilitates the development of appropriate housing.

    Negotiate a bespoke agreement to remove Plan Change Two from the district plan to stop uncontrolled intensification.

    Put in place common sense decision making regarding building consents; counsel should be a safe enabler that supports good decisions.

  • Advocate for the halted Kāinga Ora project schedule to be restarted to provide much more needed affordable homes for the most vulnerable.

    Bring forward the update of the district growth strategy policy writing to minimise the detrimental effects of current plan changes.

    Rezone to allow for safe and welcoming supported places for the homeless in vans, supporting them with facilities and recognising the need.
