Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Continue funding waste reduction education and resource recovery efforts drawing on experience. I was KCDC's sustainable waste portfolio leader for six years which was epic.

Maintain the most cost-effective rubbish management possible using contractors while teaching people how to reduce waste and wheelie bin costs.

Support KCDC's decision to go it alone with three water management and maintain the pipes.

  • Continue providing a cost-effective Three Waters service through careful asset management.

Work with the community to find better solutions for waste minimisation and recycling.

  • Ensure dog ownership does not become cost prohibitive for Kāpiti families.

Ensure Kāpiti continues to invest in water services retaining delivery of services with council.

Instigate limiting rubbish collection to one private business per town.
