Nelson City Council
The Nelson City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. four councillors will be elected from the Stoke-Tāhunanui ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the city. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
I have been encouraged to stand and believe I would make a good councillor. I am motivated by positive reasons, not personal gain. My only goal is to contribute to the wellbeing of the city and its people.
About me
I am a first-generation Kiwi who grew up in Tasman. I met my wife here and have lived in Stoke ever since. I work as a self-employed IT consultant and we are raising two teenage children.
My priorities
- Keep rates and spending under control to maintain affordability for households and businesses.
- Make council decisions transparent so people can clearly see how and why they are made.
- Take accountability for decisions and help restore trust in local government.
