Why I'm standing

I champion my community. I am an exemplary community leader and use my talents to uplift the community. I support New Plymouth being called the sustainably lifestyle capital of NZ and I am committed to ensuring that happens and is equitable for everyone.

About me

I am a New Plymouth District Council incumbent councillor seeking re-election. I am a former broadcaster and political journalist, high school deputy principal and tutor of journalists. I also have a not-for-profit media platform Bryan Vickery Media Taranaki. I am well known for my community service and supporting the not-for-profit sector. I am actuated by my love of the community. My priority is reining in rates while ensuring council does not make negative, reactive decisions.

My priorities
  1. Rein in rates and reassess major capital projects, such as the coastal walkway extension.
  2. Renew the CBD as retailers have had a torrid time, especially due to the sleeping rough community.
  3. Improve fiscal responsibility without undermining the quality of life that the district boasts.
