Rangiora-Ashley Community Board

Rangiora Subdivision
The Rangiora-Ashley Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Waimakariri District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of eight members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the community board area. Six members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

  • Advocate for community preparation for an AF8 and other natural disasters.

    Ensure timely and well-evidenced information on flooding and inundation risk is provided to local residents.

  • Create and promote policy which improves sustainability.

    Improve Rangiora's resilience in civil defence emergencies both by improving the ability to respond and reducing the risk.

    Increase availability of public transport options and local work opportunities.

  • Engage with and actively involve other groups who are standing by and ready to assist, eg Rangiora Community Patrol, NC Neighbourhood Support.

    Strengthen flood control and resilience infrastructure.

    Train and equip the civil defence team, including the many volunteers and community hubs, so they can effectively lead emergency responses.

  • Commit to councils civil defence preparedness plans and flood protection for natural disasters.
