Rangiora-Ashley Community Board

Rangiora Subdivision
The Rangiora-Ashley Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Waimakariri District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of eight members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the community board area. Six members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local councils are responsible for land use planning under the Resource Management Act, which affects where and how new houses are constructed, as well as the design of cities and towns. In some areas, councils also provide housing to those who need it most.

  • Stop housing development encroaching into the green belt and focus on higher density housing instead.

  • Encourage intensification of housing where appropriate within existing residential hubs.

    Open new areas for residential development in a sustainable way as described in the council plans, eg around the Rangiora Airfield.

    Preserve prime agricultural land through zoning requirements.

  • Facilitate residents' queries about resource consents and zoning.

    Foster economic development by promoting Rangiora town centre and following up complaints about the look of and access to the CBD.

    Lobby for removal of seven day a week parking time limits in Rangiora, except for loading zones and high-use areas, and consult with businesses.

  • Ensure a reasonable amount of public park land is included in any new development.

    Make sensible decisions on land use.

    Promote a mix of high-value and affordable housing to suit current needs.
