Mayor of Dunedin

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Dunedin City Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I'm proud of what we have achieved over the last three years, putting our people and planet at the centre of everything we do. I want us to build on our progressive momentum, be ambitious around climate action, and be a better Treaty partner.

About me

I have a broad, and deep, understanding of the challenges facing local government and the opportunity we have to support better wellbeing outcomes. As mayor I have provided the opportunity for all perspectives to be heard, in a constructive and collegial manner, which is what our community deserves. I believe in collective responsibility and have always represented the collective view of council.

My priorities
  1. Decarbonise transport by making it easier for people to make more trips on foot, by bike or by bus.
  2. Build stronger and more resilient communities by investing in wellbeing at a neighbourhood scale.
  3. Rebuild our local creative community by investing in the people and places that bring our city alive.
