Gisborne District Council

Tairāwhiti General Ward
The Gisborne District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Eight councillors will be elected from the Tairāwhiti General ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Gisborne District Council election.

Why I'm standing

Council for me is about the future and what changes or enhancements can be made to make it a better place for those who follow. We need to make this place one which provides a lifestyle choice which is attractive and encouraging for whole families. The ideal would be such that all generations of the same family can stay together with their individual needs in work and play readily available.

About me

I am an experienced Councillor. This is a crucial time in local government with change seemingly coming at us from every quarter. I fully understand the role and commit to it with a full time capacity and guaranteed availability. I am approachable. I expect to be approached and work on behalf of those approaching as their representative; their voice. I always do the work and all due diligence to understand the issues and the complexities.

My priorities
  1. Maintaining our ageing and failing infrastructure. Notably roads and wastewater
  2. Iwi relationships. The nature of our great community is such that we must get this right.
  3. Climate change action. We all have a part to play and we must do ours
