Gisborne District Council

Tairāwhiti General Ward
The Gisborne District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Eight councillors will be elected from the Tairāwhiti General ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Gisborne District Council election.

Why I'm standing

This term will involve significant change and reform. I have proven that I am a trustworthy, diligent and focussed councillor. I use my professional and commercial skills and experience as a lawyer to drill into the issues and ask the hard questions to ensure that council's decisions are best for our communities and region. I believe my legal and commercial skill set are essential in council and there are no other candidates with them.

About me

I am Kaiti born and raised but have travelled and worked overseas. I have more than two decades of commercial and legal experience in helping people resolve their problems. I am a great listener, able to manage and analyse large amounts of information and focus on finding a solution. I care deeply for Tairāwhiti – our people, our businesses and our environment. I am absolutely committed to making Tairāwhiti a better place for everyone.

My priorities
  1. Removing organic material from our waste will reduce landfill content by more than 25% and cut greenhouse gas emissions.
  2. Ensuring that land use in Tairāwhiti has long term sustainability and its impact is fully understood.
  3. Remove council controlled barriers to housing development and enable fit for purpose housing.
