Gisborne District Council

Tairāwhiti General Ward
The Gisborne District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Eight councillors will be elected from the Tairāwhiti General ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Gisborne District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I LOVE our place and I have three of four of my adult children and a grandson living here – our whānau are our future. My mission and passion is to make Tairāwhiti a better place for them and everyone.

About me

Previous to becoming elected to Gisborne District Council in 2019, I was a journalist and chief reporter here for 15 years. I have a sound knowledge base of Tairāwhiti – its challenges and successes. I am intelligent, committed and apply common sense to all decision-making. I will always show up prepared and the two things I care about the most aside from family, are the environment and people.

My priorities
  1. Improving our waste management. Specifically – getting green waste out of black bags.
  2. Improving community consultation through introduction of a citizen assemblies programme.
  3. Advocating central government for funding to keep rates down and improve community wellness.
