Gisborne District Council

Tairāwhiti General Ward
The Gisborne District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Eight councillors will be elected from the Tairāwhiti General ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Gisborne District Council election.

Why I'm standing

Tairāwhiti Rising is my vision for our place. I believe each new day should bring new opportunities for everyone. I believe we can do more together and a shared vision that is grassroots will inspire more hope.

About me

I love serving my community and it's been a privilege serving at the council table. My passion to see better and fairer representation has come to fruition with the introduction of five Māori ward seats. Tairāwhiti is rising!

My priorities
  1. Supporting the new knowledge and connections our Māori ward councillors bring.
  2. Continuing to use my influence with central government to be a better Te Tiriti partner.
  3. Continue to influence participatory democracy in my region.
