Gisborne District Council

Tairāwhiti General Ward
The Gisborne District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Eight councillors will be elected from the Tairāwhiti General ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Gisborne District Council election.

Why I'm standing

Fourth generation Gisborne born and breed with all my extended family still residing here. Vested interest in the area. I am standing for council to help our village and preserve our little piece of paradise for generations to come.

About me

Young, well balanced with a very broad skill set and experience. Diploma in policing, business and teaching. Number of construction management/civil engineering papers and qualified builder. Worked six years in council with last three as roading network manager so have a real insight of council processes. Very hard working with a vested interest in the area. Would listen and be a voice for the diverse population of our region.

My priorities
  1. Cleanup our waterways. Planting of riparian areas. Continual investment into sewage infrastructure.
  2. Get a more appropriate proportion of funds for roading, given the high frequency of logging trucks.
  3. Diversify our industries and look at more local wood processing.
