Hamilton City Council

East General Ward
The Hamilton City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Six councillors will be elected from the East ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Hamilton City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I want Kirikiriroa Hamilton to be a place where all people thrive, where inequity is addressed, poverty is no longer, climate change is mitigated and nature thrives. I want our city to be walkable, with safe cycleways and reliable, affordable public transport. I want our city to offer an abundance of arts, recreation and education opportunities especially for our young people. I want Kirikiriroa Hamilton to lead the way as the city of the future.

About me

I have worked at the grassroots for many years, advocating and researching on social issues and developing environmental initiatives. I currently serve on Trust Waikato and a host of other smaller community trusts. I believe that I have the skills, vision, governance experience and community relationships to make an effective and worthy contribution at the Council table.

My priorities
  1. Increase community connection through well designed neighbourhoods and accessible facilities.
  2. Increase nature through increased tree planting, tree protection and weed and predator control.
  3. Improve transport options to reduce congestion, improve wellbeing and mitigate climate change.
