Hamilton City Council

East General Ward
The Hamilton City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Six councillors will be elected from the East ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Hamilton City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I believe that Hamilton is going through a period of rapid change and growth and I want to make sure our infrastructure, both physical and social, is resilient and flexible enough to meet these changes. We need to identify the causes of problems rather than treating the symptoms, while maintaining the progress we have made without falling back into seemingly easier but less effective systems of the past.

About me

I have lived in Hamilton for 25 years, half as a renter, half as a ratepayer. For fifteen years I have produced work for the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival and I have been a board member of the One Victoria Trust since its formation in 2013. I have skills in understanding, translating and communicating ideas and in leadership, bringing people together to adapt to circumstances and achieve collective goals.

My priorities
  1. Ensure our infrastructure is resilient and adaptable to the impacts of climate change.
  2. Expand and support alternative forms of transport to reduce traffic congestion.
  3. Encourage local community projects and events, both on a small and city-wide level.
